Abstract

This article analyzes the translation treatment of colloquial speech (CS) in different types of texts. The notion of colloquial speech, colloquialisms, and a classification proposal are explained from the lexical-semantic approach. A set of knowledge that the translator must possess to achieve a faithful and accurate translation is listed, addressing issues of a social, cultural, slang or idiomatic expressions of said colloquial elements, which arise in various texts such as contemporary literature and audiovisual works. It seeks to analyze the theoretical proposal of the notion of translation competence (TC) of PACTE group, with special emphasis on the linguistic and extralinguistic subcompetencies. In addition to the above, it seeks to specify precisely the declarative knowledge that the competent translator must possess and the task to be carried out in the presence of the HC in a translation assignment.
