Abstract
This article aims to analyze two academic programs of an equivalent level of education: the Grado en Traducción e Interpretación offered by the Facultad de Traducción e Interpretación at the Universidad de Granada and the Licenciatura en Traducción offered by the Escuela Nacional de Lenguas, Lingüísticas y Traducción at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, in order to compare the sub-competences of the Translation Competence in which each program focuses on the most, and to contrast the approaches to teaching translation of each school. For the comparison, we analyzed the syllabi of every course of each program, and classified them according to the sub-competence of greatest importance. Drawing on the Translation Competence model from PACTE group (2005) to classify them, we discovered that both programs focus most heavily on the bilingual sub-competence, followed by the extra-linguistic sub-competence and the knowledge about translation sub-competence. Moreover, we realized that both programs have different approaches for the development of the bilingual and extra-linguistic sub-competences.
